American Revolution 250 in 2026

The 250th anniversary of the events of the American Revolution are well underway, with 2026 marking the semiquincentennial the Declaration of Independence.

Two hundred and fifty years ago in 1776 . . . 

⚔️January 1st - Burning of Norfolk, Virginia destroyed loyalist property

⚔️February 27th - Battle of Moores Creek Bridge suppressed loyalist activity in the Carolinas

⚔️March 17th - Boston evacuated by the British

⚔️June 28th - Attack on Charleston by British repelled 

⚔️July - Declaration of Independence adopted by the Second Continental Congress

⚔️August 27th - Battle of Brooklyn/Long Island, victory for British under General Howe

⚔️October 11th - Naval success on Lake Champlain under Sir Guy Carleton stops Americans’ northern movement

⚔️October 28th - Battle of White Plains, New York, solidifies British control over the region

⚔️November - British occupation of New York, the main base of operation for war

⚔️December 26th - Battle of Trenton
