Background:

Northumberland County, as one of the eight original New Brunswick counties, included a vast area of the northern and eastern part of the Province. Kent County was erected in 1826 from two southern parishes of Northumberland County. Researchers interested in the latter county should consult the surviving Northumberland County records for information relating to the early settlement period.

The microfilm copy of the Registry Records was made from a typescript copy of the Records.

On the first reel, the Volume numbers of the registers are designated 1-11, 1787-1814 and 11-16, 1814-1820. 

From Volume 16 through 31, 1820-1831, each volume represents only one, or frequently two years.

The records contain deeds and mortgages; memorials; lease agreements; and many other documents relating to the ownership of land.
