Background:

Queens County is one of the eight original New Brunswick counties that were established after New Brunswick was set off from Nova Scotia in 1784. The other counties were: Saint John, Kings, Sunbury, York, Westmorland, Charlotte and Northumberland.

Contents:

There are ten register books for the first thirty-eight years of Queens County land transactions. They provide a rich source of information on the lives of the Loyalists who were the principal settlers of this area. 

Documents include: deeds; mortgages; lease agreements; receipts; oaths; and other records. Many of the documents contain the signatures of witnesses. The date received, the place of registration, and the date of registration are recorded, along with the signature of the Registrar at the end of each record. 

The documents are filed by date of registration.

Finding Aids:

The individual volumes do not have indexes. An index by grantor to grantee, 1786-1866, and another by grantee to grantor, 1786-1866, are available on one microfilm reel. A microfilm shelf list is available in print and as a PDF.
