Background:

Donald MacDonald (1762-1842) emigrated from Scotland to the Parish of Cambridge, Queens County, New Brunswick in the mid 1780s, immediately after the American Revolution. He and his wife, Ann Smith (1772-1853), became the parents of thirteen children, and farmed at New Canaan where Mr. MacDonald also operated a grist mill.

The material relating to the MacDonald family, which has been microfilmed on this reel, is arranged as Series 2 and Series 3.

Series 2 contains six volumes of detailed genealogical information, one volume for each generation of the Mac Donald family. Photographs of individuals and other pictures can be found throughout all six volumes. Volume 7 is made up of correspondence and genealogical notes on the MacDonald fmaily and on other families that were connected to the MacDonalds. They include the Hendry, Belyea, Cory and Paxton families. Series 3 includes the following: William Lewis MacDonald account book, 1860 - 1865; Respiration, a dissertation by William Lewis MacDonald, 1865; several deeds, 1875, 1882, 1884; and a letter written by A.B. MacDonald containing information on the Hendry family.

The original records in Series 3 are held by the University of New Brunswick Archives. The MacDonald family history and photographs were loaned to the University of New Brunswick Archives for copying by Mr. and Mrs. Donald MacDonald. The originals were returned to the owners.
