Background:

Petitions for land grants were submitted to the Land Committee of the Executive Council of Quebec and Lower Canada, 1764-1841, together with related and supporting documentation, 1637-1842, and accumulated in the Executive Council office to form a valuable record of the land granting process.

Contents:

The series includes many reports and schedules prepared by the Surveyor General when reporting to the Land Committee, documents relating to the administration of the Jesuit Estates, draft and duplicate minutes and reports of the Land Committee, and regulations of the land granting office, 1764-1840.

Included with the petitions are many supporting documents. They include: correspondence; warrants for and reports of survey; draft letters patent for title deeds; and Minutes of Council recording a decision on a petition.
