Material Description:
2 microfilm textual records 35 mm
Background:

The Jarvis family records in this collection were loaned to the University of New Brunswick Library for microfilming in 1983 by the owners of the manuscripts, Norah Toole and her sister Kathleen G. Barry, both of Fredericton and formerly of Montreal and Ottawa. Kathryn Hilder and Janet Phillipps, Reference Librarians in the Harriet Irving Library at the time the Papers were on loan, arranged the collection and compiled a calendar before microfilming began. Both Norah Toole and Kathleen G. Barry are now deceased.

Contents:
Reel 1, contains the following material: correspondence; legal documents; genealogical information; pictures; and newspaper clippings. The records relate, principally, to the Jarvis family of Ontario, although there are letters from members of the New Brunswick Branch of the family. As the Powell family was related to the Jarvis family, a number of letters concerning that family are part of the collection. The Papers are arranged in five Series, and numbered consecutively throughout. The items in Series 1 to 3 are arranged in chronological order. The material in Series 4 and 5 is undated

Reel 2, consists of a microfilm copy of the book, The Jarvis Family, by George A. Jarvis, George Murray Jarvis and William Jarvis Wetmore. (Hartford Connecticut: Case, Lockwood Brainard, 1879). This genealogical work encompasses the entire family connection from the earliest emigration to America to the latter part of the nineteenth century, and contains additional information which family members have inserted by hand to supplement the original text.

Originals:
The original records are now held by a member of the family in Fredericton.
Finding Aids:
A calendar of the Papers was compiled by Kathryn Hilder and Janet Phillipps, Reference Librarians in the Harriet Irving Library. The individual items are numbered and described in chronological order with undated material listed at the end. The calendar, along with a Table of Contents, has been microfilmed at the beginning of each reel. See Microforms staff for an electronic copy.

A microfilm shelf list, which has been prepared by Kathryn Hilder, the author of the Loyalist Collection Inventory is available as an Electronic Finding Aid.
