Background:

In 1800 the Johnstown District (Leeds and Grenville Counties) was separated from the Eastern District. Prior to 1800, the Minutes of the Court of General Quarter Sessions for this District may be found in the Minutes of the Court for the Eastern District.

The Minutes prior to 1841 contain information concerning both the administrative and judicial activities of the magistrates at Sessions.

This microfilm consists of minutebooks. The minutes prior to 1841 contain information concerning both the administrative and judicial activities of the magistrates at Sessions.  Not only is there a record of criminal cases before the court but the minutes also contain lists of constables appointed, lists of tavern licenses granted, and orders for payment of district accounts.
