Background:

On June 17, 1781, the Governor and Council established the County of Hants by setting off from Kings County the Townships of Windsor, Falmouth and Newport.

Contents:

The Minutes contain lists of Grand Jury and Sessions Court jurors as well as numerous lists of local officeholders appointed for the Townships of Windsor, Falmouth, Rawdon and Douglas. The names given to several of the offices provide an interesting glimpse into the lives and concerns of the people of that time and local area. They are as follows: overseers of the poor; assessors of all rates and taxes; collectors of all rates and taxes; surveyors of highways; town clerk; fence viewers; weighers of hay; surveyors of lines and boundaries; inspectors of sheep; constables; inspector of thistles; pound keeper; overseers of river fishery; and many others. 

The Minutes give a detailed account of the proceedings of the court as it dealt with petitions, court cases, expenses incurred in the administration of the county government, and many other matters which fell within its jurisdiction.

The original records were once held by the Town Clerk at Windsor, Nova Scotia, but appear to be now in the possession of the Nova Scotia Archives.
