Background:

Persons who were married following publication of banns in their parish churches were not required to have a marriage licence, and thus did not post a bond. Those wishing to be married by licence were required to have two bonds posted affirming that there was no lawful impediment to the marriage.

Contents:

The series contains marriage bonds and marriage licence correspondence. The bonds are arranged in a numbered sequence, but grouped by year with each year forming a volume. The last reel contains eight pages of marriage licences for 1843 and 1844.
