Category:
Military
Creator:
Great Britain. Treasury.
Material Description:
1 microfilm textual records 35 mm
Background:

The fact that this volume is found among the Treasury Papers is most probably the result of a request to the Secretary-at-War in 1788 for an account of the Provincial Forces during the recent war in North America. In response, the Secretary forwarded this volume to Treasury. The exact title of the volume is, Lists of Provincial Officers That Served in North America, Canada, and the West Indies During the Late War, 1782.

Contents:

Treasury 64/23 is arranged by regiment. The officers names are recorded in order of rank within their respective regiments and under the heading: Officers Receiving Half Pay. In a column under the category, Alterations, are recorded the names of officers who resigned or were cashiered, succeeded to rank, or retired on halfpay. The list does not contain details of age, service, and country or nationality, which can be found in the War Office 65 list. However, a unique feature of this volume is a list of the Broken Corps in the North American Provincial Establishment, which contains details on the status of each individual. Included among the lists are rosters of Canadian Indians, Six Nations Indians, and Indians of the Southern Department.
