The Laws of the Legislature of the State of New York in Force Against the Loyalists... was first printed in 1786 by H. Reynell, London, England. In 1981, Lost Cause Press, Louisville, published this microfiche edition.

Contents:

The publication begins with a lengthy preface and is followed by a detailed Table of Contents. The Laws and the Table of Contents are arranged with all the laws pertaining to a particular subject grouped under a common heading. The chapter references to the legislation, the date the law was passed, the title of the Act, and the page reference to the text of the Act in the microfiche, are all given in the Table of Contents. 

The categories under which the Acts are organized and the number of Acts in each category are listed as follows:

  • Laws for attainting the Persons and forfeiting and disposing of the Estates of Loyalists - 12 Acts;
  • Laws respecting Debts due to Loyalists - 3 Acts;
  • Laws for Banishing the Loyalists, - Punishing Adherence to the King of Great Britain - And to Exclude such of his Majesty's Faithful Subjects as had left the State at any Time before the 10th Day of December 1783, from returning to, or residing in the same - 4 Acts.
  • Laws Excluding Professional Men from the Exercise of their Professions - 2 Acts.
  • Laws respecting Trespasses, subjecting the Loyalists, and even Servants of the Crown, to Prosecutions for Acts done by them in the Discharge of their Duty, under the Order of the Commander-in-Chief of his Majesty's Forces, the Rights of Conquest, and the Law of Nations - 3 Acts.
  • Laws affecting the Trade of Great Britain by imposing Duties on British goods imported in British Bottoms - prejudicial to British Creditors; and subjecting British Merchants, with others, resident in the Southern District of the State, to the Payment of enormous Taxes imposed under Pretext, that the same were an equivalent for Taxes not levied in that Quarter during the War - 8 Acts.

The Definitive Treaty of Peace and Friendship between His Britannic Majesty and the United States of America, signed at Paris the 3rd of September 1783, and Six Appendices, follow the Acts.
