The Northumberland County Inquests were convened in the name of the Sovereign by a Coroner or a Justice of the Peace with the purpose of determining when, where, and by what means a person came to his/her death. The report of the inquest is a record of the evidence presented and the decision rendered by a jury.
- Contents:
The information contained in the report includes the name of the deceased, the place and date of the inquiry, the name of the official who convened the inquest, and the signatures of all the jurors. Frequently, the circumstances which led to the death are described in detail before the verdict is rendered. Costs are included for some cases. The microfilm is divided by date into two sections: Part 1, 1821-1879; and Part 2, 1817-1859.
