Call Number:
HIL-MICL FC LPR .N6R4M3B6 Index
Category:
Nova Scotia
Creator:
Nova Scotia. Registrar-General.
Material Description:
1 microfilm textual records 35 mm
Background:

A marriage bond was given as security that there was no legal impediment to a proposed marriage and was required before a licence could be issued. When a marriage was performed after the publication of banns in church, a bond and a licence were not required. There is little genealogical information in the bond except for the names of the bride and groom, the groom's residence and perhaps his occupation. The names of the parents are not included.

Contents:

The Loyalist Collection contains only the Index to the Marriage Bonds from 1763 to 1822. It is arranged chronologically, but not alphabetically. The complete Index extends in time from 1763 to 1860.

Originals:

The original records are held by the Nova Scotia Archives.

Archival Ref. No.:

PANS/NSA RG 32, Series 7, vol. 132 (vol. 1).

Notes:

The Marriage Bonds are arranged in 169 volumes and extend from 1763 to 1871. The Bonds are not available in the Loyalist Collection.

The typed reference at the beginning of the reel is inaccurate. It refers to the Bonds, not to the Index.
