- Background:
The second Heir and Devisee Commission was established in 1805 and abolished in 1911. The Commission adjudicated claims to land by the heirs and devisees of the original Crown land grantees.
- Contents:
The Archives of Ontario has created a card index to the Claims Case Files of the Second Heir and Devisee Commission. The case files are arranged alphabetically by claimant's name within each year. The index to the files is by surname and gives the dates, case file number and township or location of the land requested. Approximately 5000 names have been indexed.
