The Halifax Garrison Orderly Book is a daily record of both the general orders and the garrison orders issued from Headquarters at Halifax for the period, 4 February 1801 - 5 October 1801. In this Orderly Book, information is recorded for the following regiments: Royal Artillery, Royal Fusiliers, Royal Newfoundland Fencibles, and the Loyal Surrey Rangers. The parole of the day and the officer of the day are always given. The general orders are often long and detailed. Garrison courts-martial, medical board appointments and meetings, garrison memoranda, promotions, appointments, and leaves of absence are recorded, along with reports of drills, reviews of troops, and numerous other activities that occurred during the daily activities of this large military establishment.
