Background:

The first Prerogative Court in the Province was established in 1788. In 1793 the Prerogative Court was replaced by two new Courts, the Probate Court and the Surrogate Court.

Contents:

The Estate Files include both testate and intestate estates. They consist of Wills and Codicils; Letters of Probate and Administration; petitions for Letters of Administration and Guardianship; bonds; inventories of estates; subpoenas; and many other related documents. The material is arranged by estate number on the microfilm. Only the first 325 files are available in the Loyalist Collection.
