Despatches and enclosures from the Secretary of State for War and the Colonies to the Lieutenant Governor of Lower and Upper Canada and the United Province of Canada. Many of the documents are similar to those in National Archives of Canada, RG 7, G 1, Despatches from the Colonial Office : 1784-1867, and form a supplementary body of information.

The documents are organized by volume into three groups. They include Upper Canada Supplemental, documents relating to Upper Canada that were acquired after the calendar and binding of RG 7, G 1 had been completed (volume 1); miscellaneous papers relating to Upper and Lower Canada which were found in various locations in the "G" Series (volume 2); and Despatches to the Lieutenant Governor, documents which were originally part of "S" Series, including those of the Civil and Provincial Secretary of Lower Canada and Quebec (volumes 3-9 inclusive).
