Numbered and unnumbered private and confidential despatches and enclosures from the Lieutenant Governors of Upper Canada (Volumes 1-3, 14); New Brunswick (Volumes 4-10); Nova Scotia (Volume 11); Prince Edward Island (Volume 12); and Newfoundland (Volume 13) -- addressed to the Governor General. The series is arranged by colony, and the documents for each colony are arranged chronologically.

The documents in this series deal with many subjects including: militia and defence; immigration; land questions; public works; Indian administration; canals; clergy reserves; border relations and boundaries with the United States; the Madawaska Settlement; and the Bay of Fundy canal and fisheries.
