Background:

Research Publications has assembled and microfilmed the most important published colonial and state records of the original Thirteen Colonies, Maine, and Vermont. The series is comprised of sixty-seven titles which span the years from the earliest available records for each colony until approximately 1800.

Contents:

The Colonial Records of New Jersey : First Series, was microfilmed on eight reels and contains twenty-four volumes of material. A subsequent purchase by the University of New Brunswick Library from Brookhaven Press of five reels containing twenty-two volumes completed the Series. 

 

CR 31. Acts of the General Assembly of the Province of New Jersey from the Surrender of the Government to Queen Anne, on the 17th Day of April 1702, to the 14th Day of January 1776; to which is annexed the Ordinance for Regulating and Establishing the Fees of the Court of Chancery of the said Province, with three Alphabetical Tables and Index... 

 

CR 32. The Grants, Concessions, and Original Constitutions of the Province of New Jersey; the Acts passed during the Proprietary Governments, and other material Transactions before the Surrender therefore to Queen Anne; the Instrument of Surrender, and her formal Acceptance thereof; Lord Cornbury's Commission and Instructions Consequence thereon, 1664-1702. There is a preface at the beginning of the volume. Subject indexes for New Jersey, East Jersey, and West Jersey, are located at the end of the volume.

The Laws are preceded by the following documents: The Grant of King Charles the Second to James, Duke of York, 12 March 1663-1664; The Release of James, Duke of York to John Lord Berkeley, and Sir George Carteret, 24 June 1664; Constitution of New Jersey, 2 July 1776; Declaration of Independence, 4 July 1776; Constitution of the United States of America in Congress, 1787; and other documents. There is a subject index at the end of the volume.

Volume 21, Calendar of Records in the Office of the Secretary of State, 1664-1703. 

Part 1, East Jersey Records. Part 2, West Jersey Records. A table of contents and a preface are located at the beginning of the volume. There is an index of names of persons and subjects, and a list of occupations, professions, and trades, containing an alphabetical list of persons engaged in each occupation, at the end of the volume. A supplementary index completes the volume. There is a second copy of Volume 21 on the next reel (Reel 9)

Volume 22, Marriage Records, 1665-1800. An historical introduction on the early marriage laws of New Jersey and the precedents on which they were founded precedes the Marriage Records 

Volume 23, Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. 1 (1670-1730. Contains an introductory note on the early testamentary laws and customs of new Jersey. There is a preface at the beginning of the volume, an index of names of persons, an index of places and an index of subjects at the end of the volume.
