The Annual Army Lists were printed volumes issued from the War Office under the direction of the Secretary-at-war.

- The Annual Army Lists contain the names of all Officers in the British Army including, General and Field Officers, the Officers of Regiments of Horse, Dragoons, and Foot on both the British and Irish Establishments
with an alphabetical index to all names. Also, each annual List includes the Officers of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, Corps of Engineers, Irish Artillery and Engineers, Marine Forces, Officers on Half Pay, and a Succession of Colonels. The names are listed in order of rank under a heading containing the number and name of the Regiment in which they served, with the dates of their commissions as they rank in each Corps and in the Army.
These registers provide data on military personell and can be used in tracing an officer's career as he progressed through the ranks.
