Jacob Ball was a 1st Lieutenant in a Loyalist ranger corps commanded by Lt-Colonel John Butler. Butler's Rangers was raised in 1777 and served with the British Indian allies during the American Revolution. The Rangers were disbanded at Niagra and most took up residence in Upper Canada as United Empire Loyalists.
