A number of petitions were found to have been omitted from the main index to the Upper Canada Land Petitions, and between 1978 and 1991 supplementary entries were prepared and microfilmed.

The index is almost exclusively by personal name, but a few entries have been made for the names of Indian tribes, for places, names, and for office titles. Unlike the main index which does not give the microfilm reel number on which the petition will appear, making it necessary for researchers to consult a shelf list to identify the correct reel, the references in the Supplementary Series do provide the microfilm reel numbers.
