- Material Description:
- 3 microfilm textual records (19 volumes) ; 35 mm
- Background:
Included are early Luneburgh District Minutes sitting at Osnabruck. Between 1793 and 1799 the Sessions Court sat alternately at Cornwall and New Johnstown (Brockville). Therefore, pre-1800 Minutes include information on what was to become the Johnston District. The term United Counties refers to the Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. In the early records, the spelling of the District name may appear as either Luneburg or Lunenburg.
- Contents:
Prior to 1841 the Minutes contain both the administrative and the judicial activities of the Sessions. They include the appointment of local office holders; lists of tavern licences granted; orders for the payment of District accounts; and the proceedings of jury trials. The list of jurors present is always recorded at the beginning of the Minutes for each season.
- Originals:
The original records are held by the Archives of Ontario with the exception of a few early volumes which are held by Library and Archives Canada and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
