Description: 2 microfilm textual records () ; 35 mm
Background:
In Upper Canada, beginning in 1793, a series of statutes required the taking of a census on an annual basis. Both male and female residents were to be included, but most usually only the name of the head of the household was recorded. The returns which have survived are few and scattered. By 1851 the pattern of a census every ten years had become established.

Contents:
The Canada West census for 1842 is arranged by District and within each District by Township. The census returns for many townships have not survived. However, the microfilm indicates which townships are missing and which ones have been included on the microfilm.
