Background:
            The London District was established in 1800 and included the Counties of Middlesex, Norfolk, and Oxford, which were formally parts of the Home and Western Districts.
            
Contents:
            The volume contains surveyors' reports of road conditions; petitions; and descriptions of routes taken and settled upon by the early residents in various parts of the London District.  Petitions and other documents from an earlier period, e.g. 1807, were recorded after 1828 and are included in the Register.  Jurisdiction for road matters passed to the elected London District Council in 1842.
