Minutes and Records : 1765-1804.

            The Land Boards for the Districts of Luneburg, Mecklenburg, Nassau, and Hesse were established in 1789 to grant certificates of location to the early settlers in what became the province of Upper Canada.  The Boards were formally abolished in 1794 when the procedures for the management of land grants came under centralized control through the Executive Council Office.
            

            The minutes, correspondence, instructions, and reports by the four Land Boards form a single series.  The records include documents antedating the establishment of the Land Boards which were brought forward in support of applications for grants.  The arrangement of the records is first by District, then by rough categories of  minutes, correspondence, schedules of grants, etc.  The order within these categories is chronological.

            

            A personal name and subject card index on microfilm serves as a finding aid to the series.
