The Annapolis Royal Garrison Account Book begins with several pages of poetry, all written anonymously and by hand. The poetry is followed by tabulated pages of Returns of Provisions Received, Issued and Remaining, each covering a 61 day period. An Abstract of Provisions Issued, follows each tabulation of Returns. The Returns and Abstracts are recorded for every three month time period from 1782 until 1792. The provisions were distributed to the men of British Army Regiments and Departments stationed at Annapolis Royal, discharged men and their families from Loyalist Provincial Corps, German settlers from the Anspach and Waldeck Regiments, refugee Blacks who settled at Annapolis and Digby, and Loyalist refugees. The Returns and Abstracts are lengthy for the period, 1783-1785, when the Loyalists were being supplied with provisions until they were able to grow their own crops. The names of the transport vessels which brought in supplies are recorded in one list. Provisions included flour, pork, butter, rice, pease (peas), rum, molasses and oatmeal. The account book ends with several pages of poetry and a few short essays.
