Background:

Research Publications has assembled and microfilmed the most important published colonial and state records of the original Thirteen Colonies, Maine and Vermont. The series is comprised of sixty-seven titles which span the years from the earliest available records for each colony until approximately 1800. In the case of Vermont, the records have been included until 1836.

Contents:

The Vermont Records have been microfilmed on three reels and contain nine volumes of material.

CR 60. Vermont State Papers; being a collection of records and documents, connected with the assumption and establishment of government by the people of Vermont; together with the Journal of the Council of Safety, the first constitution, and the early Journals of the General Assembly, and the laws from the year 1779 to 1786, inclusive; to which are added the Proceedings of the first and second Councils of Censors. There is a table of contents, subject index, index to the laws, and introduction at the beginning of the volume.

 

CR 61. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 8 vols.

Volume 1. Records of the Council of Safety and Governor and Council of the State of Vermont to which are prefixed the Records of the General Conventions from July 1775 to December 1777. Included are: General Conventions in the New Hampshire Grants... July 1775-December 1777; Conventions in the New Hampshire Grants... July 1775-December 1777; First Constitution of the State of Vermont; Council of Safety of the State of Vermont, 8 July 1777 - 12 March 1778; Records of the Governor and Council, 12 March 1778 - August 1779; eleven appendices; and a general index.

Volume 2. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1779-1782. In addition to the Records, there are twelve appendices, a detailed table of contents, and a general index. Appendix I contains, The Haldimand Correspondence, 1779-1783.

Volume 3. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1782-1791. The Records of the Council are preceded by a table of contents which gives detailed information on the thirteen appendices that follow the Records. A subject and name index is located at the end of the volume.

Volume 4. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1791-1804. The table of contents at the beginning of the volume provides detailed descriptions of twelve appendices which follow the Records. There is a subject and name index at the end of the volume.

Volume 5. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1804-1813. The table of contents at the beginning of the volume lists the various Council dates and their page references in the Records. Descriptions of thirteen appendices are given in the table of contents. A index is located at the end of the volume.

Volume 6. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1813-1822. The Records of the Council are followed by six appendices and a general index. A table of contents at the beginning of the volume provides a detailed summary of the records and the appendices.

Volume 7. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1822-1831. In addition to the Records in this volume, there are four appendices which are described in detail in the table of contents at the beginning of the volume. A subject and name index is located at the end of the volume.

Volume 8. Records of the Governor and Council of the State of Vermont, 1831-1836. The table of contents at the beginning of the volume lists the following: dates and pages of the Council Records; brief descriptions of eleven appendices; an alphabetical list of Governors and Lieutenant Governors; alphabetical list of members of the Council of Safety and Council; secretaries to the Governor and Council; alphabetical index to biographical and other personal notices; chronological index to historical documents: and a list of portraits and other engravings. A general index is located at the end of the volume.
