In-Letters : America and West Indies (WO 1/14-18) : 1791 - 1800.

            Five volumes of important correspondence relating to Canada, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, have been recorded on this microfilm reel.

Volume 14. Canada. July - September 1794. This volume contains the correspondence of Lord Dorchester, Lieutenant Governor Simcoe, and numerous other individuals. Military records include: returns, reports, casualty returns, and states of the army. One particular document is entitled, State of the Troops in North America, commanded by Lord Dorchester, Quebec, 5 August 1794. The same volume contains maps of the Miamis River and Lake Champlain.

Volume 15. Newfoundland. 1791 - 1794. Volume 15 is comprised of the correspondence of Governors Milbank, Sir Richard King, and Sir James Wallace. Correspondence from other individuals, and numerous accounts and returns relating to the life of the colony, to ordnance and to the fishery, are preserved in this volume. There are several documents concerning St. Pierre and Michelon, one in particular is a List of Inhabitants, 2 June 1793. 

Volume 16. Newfoundland. 1794 - 1797. This volume includes the correspondence of Prince Edward Duke of Kent, Governor (Vice Admiral) William Waldegrave, and others.

Volume 17. Nova Scotia. 1794 - 1795. A large assortment of records including: correspondence, returns, estimates, maps, plans, and many other documents have been recorded in this volume. The names that are found most frequently are: Prince Edward Duke of Kent, Vice Admiral Murray, Lieutenant Colonel John Wentworth, and Colonal Edmund Fanning. The monthly returns for the Royal Nova Scotia Regiment commanded by John Wentworth, and the Island of St John's Corps of Volunteers commanded by Edmund Fanning, are reasonably complete for the period. Estimates for the construction of barracks at Citadel Hill in Halifax, plans for the fortifications at Citadel Hill and for the Star Fort on St. George's Island, estimates for the garrison on the Island, maps of the town and the harbour of Halifax, returns of ordnance, and many other documents relating to the British military presence in Halifax are found in this volume.

Volume 18. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. 1795 - 1800. A continuation of the Duke of Kent's correspondence, and of the monthly returns for both the Royal Nova Scotia Regiment (until 1799) and the Island of St. John's Corps of Volunteers (until 1798) comprise the content of this volume.
