The microfilm reel of the Loyalist Registers is divided into three sections, in addition to the correspondence, and each section contains a separate list of names
List 1, appears to be a copy of the Crown Lands Department List. It is arranged in three columns and includes the names in alphabetical order, the place of residence, and additional information when it was known. The caption for this last column is the word, descendants, and includes family relationships, regiment and rank if military personnel, order-in-council dates, and a source of information.
List 2, contains the individual's name, regiment/corps, rank, relationships, source of information, and in some cases the notation that a person is a settler. There is infrequent mention of settlement location. The arrangement of the names is alphabetical, but the list for a particular letter is frequently broken and carried on in a different part of the manuscript. Fortunately, the researcher is guided to the correct section by directions which say, for example, Continued from Folio 27, or, Carried to Folio 73.
List 3, is an alphabetically arranged nominal list which is similar in format and content to List 1. However, it also indicates those who have been temporarily suspended from the U.E.L. List. The correspondence, which has been microfilmed with the Registers, refers to the suspensions and also directs that the names may be restored to the List after a satisfactory inquiry has been made into the individual's right to be included. In a few instances there is a notation in the column containing additional information which states that the person's name has been restored to the List. |
