| Background: |
William Hubbard, a Loyalist from Stamford, Connecticut, was the first registrar of deeds and wills for Sunbury County. He was elected to the first House of Assembly after New Brunswick had been created a separate jurisdiction from Nova Scotia in 1784, and served for many years as chief justice of the Court of Common Pleas. He was a lawyer by profession and farmed a large land holding at Burton, New Brunswick. |

The collection contains marriage certificates, 1756-1826, and probate records, 1786-1827, for Sunbury County. The probate records include an account book for Surrogate Fees, 1786-1808, Return of Fees for 1807, and Reports of Fees for 1816-1822 and 1814-1817. The material is subdivided chronologically.
