Background:
            John Denison was a pioneer settler of Kingston and later York (Toronto) in Upper Canada. He was a brewer by trade. John Fennings Taylor, the nephew of his wife Sophia, was deputy clerk of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadas and clerk of the Senate of Canada. John and Sophia Denison had one daughter, Elizabeth, and four sons, George, Thomas, Charles and John.

            The Papers are arranged in chronological order and contain business and general correspondence; accounts, including those of the Kingston brewery; the wills of John Denison and Elizabeth Russell of York; indentures; the commission appointing J.F. Taylor to be clerk of the Senate; and, an Act to make the first day of July everybody's holiday, 1879.
