Background:
            Amos Botsford was born in Newton, Connecticut in 1744, and graduated from Yale College in 1763. He came to Nova Scotia in 1782 as a Loyalist and agent for the British government to make preparations for the settlement of Loyalists at Digby. In 1784 he moved to the newly formed Province of New Brunswick where he practised law and represented Westmorland County in the House of Assembly from 1785 until his death in 1812.  He married Sarah Chandler and had one son, William, and two daughters, Anne and Sally, both of whom married sons of Thomas Millidge.            
Contents:
            The reel contains correspondence from Amos Botsford to his son William Botsford (1773-1864). The letters include the period when William was 13 years old, through his years at Yale College, and continue until he was practising law in Saint John, New Brunswick. Also included on the reel is an anonymous account book of a merchant in the Sackville, New Brunswick area, 1809-1839.  The names of customers, lists of goods purchased with their cost, accounts outstanding, and references to estates, are included.
