Background:
            Sunbury County was one of the eight original counties which were established after the creation of New Brunswick in 1784. The first four parishes were set up in 1786 and included: Burton, Lincoln, Sheffield, and Maugerville.
            
Contents:
            The Papers of the Court of General Sessions of the Peace for Sunbury County contain a wealth of material not found in the Minutes of the Sessions, but supplementary to the formal Minutes. Of particular interest are documents which contain many lists of county officials.  These include justices of the peace; town officers; petit jurors; constables; parish officers; grand jurors; and coroners. In addition, there are assessment rolls; tax lists; lists of jurors; poll books; and lists of male inhabitants appointed for road work. Other records include: petitions; bonds; instructions; memorials; appointments; and Drafts of General Sessions' Minutes. The last document on the reel is a Poll Book on Election of Representatives for Sunbury Poll opened 1st September 1795. The electors' names, place of freehold, place of abode, and candidates' names are included.
