Contents:
The St. John County Marriage Registers are comprised of eleven volumes with alphabetical designations from A-K. Each volume covers a specific chronological period. The eleven volumes encompass the years 1810-1887, but only Volume A, 1810-1828, and part of Volume B, 1828-1835, have been included on this reel of microfilm. The amount of information recorded in the entries varies considerably, from a brief notation giving only the names of the bride, the groom and the witnesses, with the date of the marriage and name of the officiating clergyman, to the more detailed entry that can be found in the marriage registers of other counties. At the end of Volume A, there are 23 additional pages of marriages registered from 1817-1827.
Originals: The original records are held by the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick.
Archival Ref. No.: PANB RS 156.
Finding Aids:
An alphabetical index to all eleven volumes, arranged by the surname of the groom along with the bride's surname and the accompanying reference to the Register, is available at the beginning of the reel. In using this index, it is necessary to check first under the alphabetical designation for the groom's name and locate the correct Book in which the name appears. The page reference will be given to the marriage register where the full registry information can be found.
